So the story goes one unlucky Apple developer goes on a drinking bender and inadvertently leaves behind a prototype next generation iPhone.
Doh! A bar worker finds the phone and realizing he's found gold hangs on to it.
Gizmodo hears about it and offers some cash to purchase it. The editor posts reviews of the phone and when Apple demands it back he happily returns it.
In a perfect world that would be the end of the story. Allegedly, when Apple realized the phone was missing they tracked it to the bar worker's house
where purported representatives of Apple demanded they search the premises. After that failed and Apple found out that
Gizmodo editor, Jason Chen, had the phone, officers from California’s Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team magically obtained a warrant and
raided Chen’s Fremont, California, home seizing computers and other equipment. Now
everybody's getting lawyers. I'm sure this isn't even close to the end of this fiasco but what's obvious is that Apple has become, as John Stewart points out, "the man." Has Apple's legal department lost their minds? Definitely.
Blogworthy material? Yep. Take it away John...
