As he's heading out the door, the FCC chairman drops some fines on cable companies for moving channels from the analog to digital tiers. This dude agrees with me that the companies are forcing people to purchase the digital set top boxes. I've fought Comcast a few times on this myself. I even had one CSR say that once a channel goes digital they no longer offer it on their analog tier. They also refuse to provide a list of Clear QAM channels (many of which are HD) and have been fairly ruthless in remapping these on a regular basis. I had another CSR say that digital channels were only available with their digital tier customers... duh, Clear QAM fool! For a bunch of companies who are telling their customers that nothing needs to be done to prepare for the digital transition (by the way, that's been moved to June), they sure are using this to push their digital services. A grand total of $510,000 was levied. That's not even a slap on the wrist. The CEO's are probably laughing in their limo's on the way to court.UPDATE: According to CNet, the House rejected the proposed delay in the DTV transition keeping the federally mandated February 17th date. Looks like the estimated 6.5 million people not prepared need to get busy or risk missing their weekly dose of Knight Rider.
