A Few Interesting Posts

While reading over at Gizmodo and Jalopnik, I found a few interesting articles I'd like to share.

The Government Destroyed Safe, Fuel Efficient High-Tech Cars
According to this article, the government had prototype high safety cars built since so many people were dying on the roads back in the 70's. A couple prototypes were built that got 30+ mpg and had high tech systems like multi-stage air bags and abs. What did our government do? Send them to the shredder effectively delaying some of these technologies 25 years. Luckily, the story unfolded after someone misplaced two of the prototypes.

Movie Company Sued for Pirating Anti-Pirating Technology
In a beautifully ironic gesture, Warner Brothers is getting sued for failing to pay for a technology that a company demoed that allowed the studio to trace pirated films back to the theater from which they were pirated.... oops. Maybe the anti-pirating company will sue for $80 gazillion dollars. That sounds fair if you're charging by the pixel.

Verizon Wireless is the New Apple
Corporate espionage used to be where guys with high-tech equipment would dress in all black and break in highly secured facilities to steal company secrets. Now all you need to do is be the lucky... strike that... unlucky sap to find a prototype phone some r-tard left in the gym. That's how the story goes for this guy. Someone left an unreleased phone in the gym. Gym dude snaps pics and even gets specs from Joe Schmo when he returned to pick it up. Gym dude emails pics to Gizmodo. Corporate guys drill Gym dude, fire him then return to his house the next day to collect some keys and stuff they forgot about. Here's an idea for Apple and Verizon: Don't let your prototypes walk around. Car companies figured out how to obscure photos with camouflage. Try, oh, I don't know, locking your highly secret devices so only someone with a Cap'n Crunch decoder ring can use them... I mean, frick.
