The A/C on my car is acting very flaky. It acted flaky last year but now it's unbearable. The issue is that it does this when it's hot outside and I'm wearing long sleeve shirts. Sure, I considered stripping to my skivvies but there are those pesky indecent exposure laws and the though of scaring small woodland creatures. Today, my best friend called to tell me that he thinks his A/C is dead mostly because it's been on all day and his house is only "cooling" to around 82 degrees. Also, the outside unit is blowing ambient air. Not good. Survey says... dead! So, kids, our lesson will be in some basic thermodynamics. There is no machine that cools anything. The basic premise of refrigeration is using mechanics and a refrigerant to move heat from one location to another. Curious? HowStuffWorks.com does a great job explaining the concept.
