New Technolgies Worth a Spin

Ok, a little pun at the expense of quantum mechanics. Regardless, I found two very interesting articles while on io9. The first entitled, "Three Recent Breakthroughs That Will Change Your Computer Forever," explains how (1) scientists can control movement of 4 protons on a silicon chip, (2) the thinnest superconducting metal has been created and (3) graphene nanoribbons are being used to replace copper interconnects. This is super cool high-tech geek stuff if you're me.

Finally, an article entitled, "Scientists Create Nanotech Memory That Holds Data for a Billion Years," describes how nanotube technology can theoretically store a bit for a billion years. The caveat is that at this scale reading the data may degrade it... doh! Hey, if they can make it work then awesome.
