According to CNet, a proposed law up in both the House and Senate has the following wording, "A provider of an electronic communication service or remote computing service shall retain for a period of at least two years all records or other information pertaining to the identity of a user of a temporarily assigned network address the service assigns to that user." In other words, if you have a router at your house with DHCP (automatic addressing) you will have to start logging usage and keep it for two years. That's not something that many people know how to do much less is it supported by every manufacturer. Maybe they'll come out with a voucher program so everyone can run out an purchase a SNMP server.

Proposed law will make home routers illegal
