I've fixed more than a couple poorly made Chinese Christmas toys recently. My favorite was a remote controlled spider. If you've never seen this particular toy, it has a small vacuum that lets it "crawl" on the wall. That's all fine and dandy until someone hits a light switch and it falls down.
Unfortunately, after that incident is only made a right hand turns. Since Toys r Us no longer stocked this toy and the Chinese warranty paperwork was long in an American landfill I did what any geek would do and took it apart. are you some of my root cause analysis skills to determine they didn't understand (1) you have to peel off the plastic for double-stick tape to work and (2) if you put a zip tie together backwards, it doesn't hold. The shock from the fall dislodged the battery and ripped out a motor lead. Some solder, tweasers and patience later and a 24ga wire was reattached. Viola! Full motion spidering!
